Navarre falls in rivalry game to Gulf Breeze

Gulf Breeze smothered Navarre’s girls soccer team 3-0 last Thursday at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

This is Navarre’s third consecutive loss, and it is now 7-4-1 on the year.

Still, the Raiders are in the middle of a 19-day sabbatical between games, which is something positive for head coach Rob Simon.

“We’re about two losses worse than I wanted to be, but we’re right there,” he said. “The girls are continuing to work hard. By all means, we’re not playing our best soccer right now, which is a good thing. Because that means there’s something for us to build up to. If we were absolutely rolling, I’d be a little nervous going into break. Being off the field hurts that momentum.

“This is a nice little break to let some bodies heal. And we’ll come back and start training Jan. 2,” he said.

The Raiders will return to the pitch Jan. 7 for a district match at home against Pace. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
