“Firewall 5s,” the highest rating airmen can receive for their performance, are in the crosshairs with promotion system changes rolling out in the Air Force. Inflation has changed these top rated reports from being scarce to now making up a substantial amount of reports received.
The Air Force wants to change that.
Policy changes are aimed at basing promotions solely on performance and getting rid of inflation caused by commanders concerned about holding their airmen back.
“This is the most comprehensive update to enlisted evaluations and promotions in nearly 45 years,” said Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody.
