More than a half-dozen Santa Rosa County employees, including three from the environmental services office, have recovered 120 turtles from the former retention pond in Navarre Park.
The turtles – some of whom were native and others abandoned pets – have been living in the pond, along with some crabs, minnows and at least one shrimp.
With the Navarre Park renovation underway, the critters are being relocated to new homes.
Knee-deep in muck the employees chased and scooped the animals into bins.
