Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alleged child abuse case in Milton July 21 in which a mother threw her 3-month-old to the floor.
According to an arrest report, Heidi Nicole Burchinal, 26, had been allegedly drinking with her boyfriend before the two went to bed. In the night, the baby woke up and began crying.
The boyfriend said he got up and began feeding the baby, and Burchinal got up and came into the room acting “crazy.”
She allegedly then took the baby from the boyfriend and said “I can’t take this anymore,” throwing the child to the tile floor. The boyfriend took the baby and called law enforcement.
EMS checked and cleared the baby, who did not have any apparent injuries. Department of Children and Families took custody of the child.
When interviewed, Burchinal had a bloody nose and blood shot, watery eyes. She allegedly refused to answer questions regarding the incident, crying and stating “Burchinal” repeatedly. She later said “I’ve made mistakes” but provided no additional information.
Burchinal saw arrested and charged with felony cruelty toward a child.
