Milton weighs Black Lives Matter mural

Tensions were high July 14 as dozens of members of the public discussed whether a street in the City of Milton should be allowed to be painted with a mural in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Summer and Chris Merricks brought the proposal to paint a mural on James and Cherry Streets to the Milton City Council.

The comments surrounding that proposal took nearly three hours to hear. Due to COVID-19, many people had to wait outside the meeting room before coming inside to provide their comments. 

Summer Merricks explained that the purpose of the mural is to acknowledge systemic racism and promote listening to the experiences of Black neighbors.
