Haley McGee flashed a wide smile the moment she learned she had been named the East MVP for the Subway All-Star Match Thursday night in Navarre.
McGee played well for sure in helping the East defeat the West in five games in this annual event featuring top seniors from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.
But was it an MVP-worthy performance? McGee wasn’t so sure. Apparently, others saw it differently.
“It was extremely unexpected. I had no idea,” McGee said. “I was like ‘who voted for this?’ I had no clue I was going to win it, but it was really cool.”
She celebrated the moment with her all-star teammates after getting her award, cheering loudly with them and taking time to pose for photos.
“It felt good to have them support me and be so accepting. It was really awesome,” she said.
McGee was one of two Navarre Raiders on the team. The other was Alyssa Kisselburg.
