Nearly four and half years after the incident occurred, a suspect has been arrested in the sexual assault of a woman in Navarre.
Jerry Shane Lassiter, 24, is charged with felony sexual assault of a victim unable to consent. He was 19 at the time of the incident.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the 41-year-old victim was in a camper in Navarre on the evening of June 10, 2015. She told deputies she awoke to Lassiter on top of her and felt pain in her pelvic area.
A condom was recovered from the scene that contained a DNA sample. That sample was compared to Lassiter’s DNA through a search warrant. Portions of the report regarding the DNA are redacted.
Santa Rosa County Jail records indicated Lassiter had since moved to Tennessee. When contacted by law enforcement, Lassiter stated he did not plan to return to Florida to be interviewed regarding the incident according to the report. He did not deny the allegations and asked “why it’s an issue so long after it happened” the report states.
Lassiter was arrested Jan. 6. He remains in Santa Rosa County Jail.
