Madril has new appreciation for game of soccer

Until last season, Emily Madril had never had the game of soccer taken away from her. A torn ACL in in 2018 sidelined her for the season at Florida State. She now knows why people say you don’t appreciate something until it’s gone.

“I’ve never had to be in a position where I’ve experienced that,” Madril said. “As much as I loved being a part of the team, it’s just completely different knowing that even if you wanted to, you can’t go on the field. I just appreciate everything more now. Every practice, every game. When I start to get tired, fatigued and worn down, I just think back to a year ago when I wasn’t able to do this.”

Madril is now back on the field. She spent the spring practicing with the team. She wore a knee brace for most of it, but even that is off now. She’s close to being back to where she was as a freshman when she started all but one game for the Seminoles.

“It’s a work in progress to get back to where I was before the injury, but I feel great,” Madril said. “I feel a lot better than I thought I would at this point.”
