With Valentine’s Day coming up, what better way to spend your romantic evening than at a relaxing and intimate dinner environment like Vine Wine Bar?
This is exactly where owners David Hoar and Melissa Whitfield’s love story began back in 2013.
They had their second date and first kiss at Vine Wine and Bar Shop when they started dating. They became frequent visitors to Vine, spending their date nights there every Tuesday, falling in love with the atmosphere, the wine and each other.
Then, in July 2017 David and Melissa became official owners of Vine. Nearly a year later, they were married there. That’s how special the place is to them, and they are focused on making sure customers love Vine as much as they do.
Jane Connor is the longest serving employee, working at Vine for almost seven years. She even officiated David and Melissa’s wedding at Vine Wine Bar.
Connor grew up in Minneapolis and the military brought her down to the Emerald Coast.
She did corporate training for restaurant companies for six years.
“Being able to work in such a small little environment and have things run the right way and work with such good owners and other employees makes it super fun,” Connor said. “And our customers are super fun!”
Jane’s famous phrase to the regulars is “see you next Tuesday” because she has always worked Tuesdays and people that come in regularly know her smiling face.
David said Jane’s superpower is that she can hold six glasses of wine at the same time and know exactly what each one of them are.
Her favorite part of working at Vine is being connected to the community. Connor has a passion for wine, and she jokingly says her liver would back that up. She is very knowledgeable about the different varieties of wine served at Vine and can pair just about any wine to someone’s taste buds.
Located at 8211 Navarre Parkway, Vine Wine and Bar Shop is open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 to 10 p.m. It’s open Friday and Saturday from 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday’s and Monday’s are set aside for private events such as weddings and bachelorette parties.
Vine’s extensive menu includes salads, savory delights such as crab cakes, bruschetta, shrimp and crab parmesan dip, margarita flatbread and sweet treats such as tuxedo bomb cake and sea salt caramel cheesecake.
One of their bestselling menu items is the Grand Adventure charcuterie board which features five specialty cheeses, four premium meats, fresh seasonal fruits, gourmet olives, cornichons and mixed nuts.
The weekly wine flights at Vine are designed to give people an opportunity to try wines of various varietals from all over the world without having to commit to a full glass or the entire bottle. A new flight is announced every Tuesday.
Jane’s favorite wine is the Belle Glos Pinot Noir Clark and Telephone. It is smooth with a smokey richness, with flavors of raspberry and red plum infused into the blend.
And if you aren’t sure what wine you want to try or have no clue what you like or don’t like, come in early, have a seat at the bar and have a chat with Vine’s wine-tenders. They are willing to help you find your favorite varietal.
So, stop on by Vine Wine Bar and Shop. You’ll fall in love with the wine and maybe even with someone special along the way like Melissa and David did five years ago.
Like owner David Hoar says, “Vine Wine Bar is Navarre’s best kept secret and most relaxing place.”
