Hundreds of students struggling with hunger in Navarre have full bellies during the weekend thanks to the Weekend Food Program (FWP).
WFP provides food insecure students in South Santa Rosa County who qualify for free and reduced lunch through the school system with bags full of food to tide them through the weekend. The program serves 403 students in Navarre and 130 in Gulf Breeze.
Program co-leader Michelle Abrams said these students are guaranteed food during the school week through school breakfast and lunch programs, but the weekend would mean uncertainty.
