Carolyn Sumrall is a familiar face at the Holley Navarre Senior Center. She can be found inside the center most of the week serving up hot meals to senior citizens, who attend the daily lunches to have a good meal and socialize with others.
Sumrall is a site manager with the Council on Aging of West Florida and got involved in the program four years ago.
“I knew some people who got Meals on Wheels and the lady with that program told me about what the Council on Aging does,” Sumrall said. “I told her I’d love to get involved. They had an opening in Navarre. I went through the process and have been here ever since.”
The senior center in Navarre is a congregate meal site and lunch is served four-days-a-week. The program has been in place through the Council on Aging since 1972, with the senior center location being one of six in Santa Rosa County. There are 18 sites in Escambia County.
