Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections Tappie Villane and members of the county canvassing board reviewed 11 provisional ballots this morning. The results from those ballots provided enough votes to eliminate the need for a recount for the District 2 Board of County Commission race between incumbents Bob Cole and Jim Melvin.
Unofficial results now show Cole with 6,661 votes and Melvin with 6,590, yieiding a difference of 0.54 percent. State statute would have mandated a recount if the difference had been less than 0.50 percent.
“I’m really happy,” said Cole after the provisional vote count. Cole says he is looking forward to the Nov. 4 general election when he will face off against Wallis Mahute (NPA).
