If you live anywhere off of Whispering Pines Boulevard, chances are you’ve waved at Paul Sims. For the last 13 years, he was been walking a 4-mile loop from his home to the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 98 and Whispering Pines Boulevard and back. And that’s not just on the days he feels like it either.
“I walk every day of the year. I tell folks, ‘fat doesn’t take a day off, so neither do I,” Sims joked. There’s just one thing that can really keep him off the road.
“I respect lightning,” he said. “Otherwise I try not to give myself excuses.”
That discipline stems back from 1998.
