Mutual aid agreements crucial for area fire districts

When flames peeked out from a dryer in a home in Midway Aug. 31, the resident’s teenaged occupant called 911. She was home alone.

Within 60 seconds the dispatcher on the other end of the line had told her to evacuate and released a call to firefighters for help. Over the radio system all Midway fire stations, all Holley-Navarre fire stations, Navarre Beach fire district and Gulf Breeze fire district and their chiefs were called to duty. Within a minute, all of them were loaded on trucks and headed to the girl’s aid, sirens blaring on the way.
