Michelle Abrams, co-leader of the Weekend Food Program Navarre, was in for a surprise Tuesday.
In honor of her efforts to feed hundreds of hungry children in Navarre, Abrams was named Culver’s national Portrait of a Hero recipient. Each year the contest recognizes an outstanding individual picked from across the nation for going above and beyond.
“I’m still shocked about it honestly,” Abrams said. “I never would have believed that somebody like me, a small town Georgia girl with a big heart, could do something that would lead to something like this.”
