Before You Tie the Knot, a free premarital skill-building class for engaged couples, those already married and singles looking to be better prepared for a healthy relationship, could be offered much closer to home.
Offered in Milton by Smart Grant under the UF/IFAS Extension Office, the 5-week course is hosted every Tuesday from 12 to 2:30 at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Milton, but could be moving to Community Life Church of Navarre in the coming months.
The class curriculum deals with a variety of topics including parenting, communication, health and finance.
Family and Consumer Sciences faculty Ginny Hinton supervises all family related topics for the extension office. She said it’s crucial couples learn these lessons.
“It’s important for all couples who are engaged or thinking of getting married,” she said. “This is a lifelong commitment and one of the most difficult to keep. It’s just a good thing to have a little bit of guidance and to learn things to make it a smoother ride.”
Instructor and Program Assistant with Smart Grant Kristin Kennington begins the course by presenting the top 10 reasons wives give for getting a divorce and the top 10 reasons listed by husbands.
