Florida lawmakers to take up ‘heartbeat bill’

The Florida Legislature is set to consider a bill that would ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, part of a renewed Republican Party strategy to expand restrictions on abortion in state laws nationwide.

In January, State Rep. Mike Hill of Pensacola sponsored the so-called “heartbeat bill” in Florida’s House of Representatives.
