Construction of Gulf Breeze Zoo’s new expanded aviary is underway and could open for visitors as early as the end of July.
Located across from the zoo’s giraffe enclosure, the Flight of the Amazon will feature a variety of South American bird species.
Visitors will enter the new walkway at one end of a long cylindrical enclosure featuring stonework, nesting canopies and waterfalls for the birds. The zoo’s bright pink Scarlet Ibis flock will be relocated to the new aviary along with four varieties of macaws, a large variety of parrot.
The birds will be able to stretch their wings with an estimated 70,000 cubic feet of flying space.
A separated area on the front end will offer squat, wide-eyed Spectacled Owls a secluded portion of the new space.
