Five Ways to Help Your Community

Donate food to the ACTS Ministries food pantry

The food pantry at ACTS Ministries, located at 4020 State Road 87, is running low. During their yearly food drive the group only received 7,000 pounds of food compared to 36,000 pounds in previous drives. ACTS normally feeds approximately 200 families a month. This month they are in danger of falling below 75 families. For more information, call 850-939-0037.

Clean up the beach at Gulf Islands National Seashore

Join volunteers from Ocean Hour as they clean up debris from the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Meet at the Naval Live Oaks Reservation Visitor Information Center at 8:45 a.m. for an hour of beach cleaning. It is turtle nesting season, and hatchlings are emerging from their nests at night to make a mad dash for the water. Trash on the beach can threaten them and many marine animals at all stages of life. Ocean Hour will provide supplies, sunscreen, water jugs and bug spray. For more information, call 850-934-2600.

Bag food for hungry children with the Weekend Food Program

The Weekend Food Program feeds hundreds of low income children over the weekend when they will not receive free school lunches.
