Fire department considers breaking with county

Amid frustrations over taxation, the Navarre Beach Fire Department is considering moving out from under the county’s supervision altogether.

Tensions between the Santa Rosa County Commission and the fire department’s board of directors, along with Chief Danny Fureigh, began Feb. 8 after the commission largely blocked a request to increase the municipal service benefit unit (MSBU) rate for commercial and residential properties.
