Family celebrates matriarch’s 100th birthday

Helen Proffitt’s sense of humor is as sharp as ever.

After having her photo taken during her 100th birthday party Sunday afternoon, she immediately quipped, “Now you have a broken camera.”

The Navarre resident and member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church spent time with family and friends, some traveling from as far as North Carolina, to celebrate her special day.

“It feels like Old Home Week,” Proffitt said. “All of these people are from my past and we’re all getting old together.”
