Emerald Coast Women’s Club presents check to Heroes on the Water

On behalf of the Emerald Coast Women’s Club, Linda Maksymuk (left) past president and Aimee Royster (right) past director of charities present a $4,784.99 check to Kelly Smith for Heroes on the Water.  The Emerald Coast Women’s Club held fundraising events throughout the year.  Each year they vote to select the charity the funds will go to and the charity for the 2015 fundraising year was Heroes on the Water.  An emotional Smith said, “Our vets will get a lot of good use from this.  The best thing is it (the donation) doesn’t leave our community.”

Heroes on the Water helps veterans from all branches of the United States military unwind using the therapeutic qualities of fishing from kayaks. What looks like a day trip of paddling and fishing is in fact something much deeper and long-lasting.

Founded in 2007, the unique kayak fishing program allows the participants a chance to decompress from the stresses associated with combat and the physical rigors of rehabilitation. Veterans enjoy these benefits while on guided fishing trips held in local communities around the country.
