In a Monday committee meeting, the Board of County Commissioners has decided, in line with staff recommendations, that the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program will be abandoned in 2016 due to lack of resident participation. The vote will take place in Thursday’s full County Commission meeting.
The grant program is designed to give homeowners who have experienced severe repetitive loss, or three or more significant flooding insurance claims, grant money to assist with the cost in mitigating their homes against future flooding. The homeowner would be responsible for 25 percent of the cost of the mitigation, but the grant would pay the remainder.
