Couch to Double Bridge Run

Registration has begun for one of the most popular races in the country hosted in Pensacola. The 20th anniversary of the Double Bridge Run will take place Feb. 4, 2017. The race takes participants from Pensacola to the Boardwalk on Pensacola Beach by way of, you guessed it, two bridges.

A lot of folks begin running with a benchmark of 5k for their first goal. This is a good start, but to tackle the DBR, you’re going to have to triple it. The DBR clocks in at 9.3 miles, a 15k. Yet, even with that distance and the mention of two bridges in its name, the race still packs in over 3,000 people each year which is a significant number considering there are no major cities nearby. But why is it so popular?

“The course is beautiful,” said Jason Libbert, Director of Events for Pensacola Sports.  “We start in downtown Pensacola at the Maritime Park and go through downtown. Then at about mile 2, you’re right at the water. Of the 9 miles, about 6 are run either over or next to water.”

Even with the promise of great scenery, those numbers can be intimidating for some.
