The weekend food program for students in Santa Rosa County is in its fifth year. What started out at one school in Gulf Breeze has expanded into Navarre.
“We started out at Gulf Breeze Elementary and have kept going down the highway,” said Sarah Conner, a Gulf Breeze resident who helped get the weekend program started in the south end of the county. “By the end of last year, we were helping about 400 students. We’re expecting to be close to that number again this year.”
Any child on the free lunch program is eligible, although there are cases where those in the reduced lunch program can participate as well.
