Water quality on Navarre Beach in the clear

_MG_9340Compared to the water quality in neighboring beaches in Escambia and Okaloosa counties, Navarre area beaches scored best according to most recent state Department of Health results.

The Florida Healthy Beaches Program provides up-to-date water quality testing and lists data on the amount of fecal coliform and enterococci, both enteric bacteria, that normally inhabit the intestinal tract of humans and animals. If they are present in high concentrations in recreational waters and are ingested while swimming or enter the skin through a cut or sore, they may cause human disease, infections or rashes.

Water quality samples collected March 18 show that all of Santa Rosa County’s five testing locations- Juana’s Beach, Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, Navarre Beach West, Navarre Park and Shoreline Park-  all received a “good” rating, which means that there was less than 35 Enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of marine water. Read more in the March 27 issue of Navarre Press or subscribe online here.
