Chance Stephens passed through Navarre June 17 in the middle of a 4,000 mile walk across America to raise money for Tiny Hands International, an organization that works behalf of very young girls who are being taken from Nepal and sold into the sex trade industry. Stephens, who began his trip in Santa Monica California on Sept. 9, 2013 now walks with friend Jacob Leonard. Their final destination is Virginia Beach, Virginia, which they expect to reach by Christmas.
“They have been saving about 130 women on average every month since 2009,” Stephens said about Tiny Hands International, adding that he wanted to find a way to help. “So I prayed about it…I asked God ‘What can I do for them?’ and said hey- why not just walk across America?”
Stephens hopes to raise $160,000 which he says will prevent 1300 girls from being sold into the sex trade industry, adding that it costs just over $100 to rescue each girl. He and Leonard also hope to make connections to help with lodging along the trip which will take them to Tampa and eventually Virginia Beach.
