The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office has received multiple complaints of stolen or damaged Christmas decorations during this year’s holiday season, turning what is normally considered a time of giving into a time of sadness and frustration for victims.
One such victim, Bethanne Goddard, set up a Christmas tree display on private property between her mailbox and a neighbor’s mailbox on Verano Street in Navarre.
“It was a beautiful white, shiny Christmas tree,” she said.
After it was stolen, Goddard made a lost tree sign, asking neighbors to call with information regarding the missing display.
Holley By The Sea resident Sherie Johnson discovered Dec. 20 that Christmas cards inside her mailbox had been opened.
“I was just infuriated,” she said.
