Online petitions are circulating in the hope of preventing the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission from lifting the ban on hunting bears in the state.
The ban has been in place since 1994 after certain species were put on an endangered list. The petitioners are asking that the FWC find non-lethal methods to reduce the conflicts with bears.
The FWC is gathering input from the public and plans to discuss the bear conflict issue further at its meeting in April.
