Unlike most people, farmer Burl Scherler can step outside of his Colorado home, jump into his Cessna 210, and take off right from his front yard. In fact he did just that Friday afternoon, and nearly five hours later, he had left the cold of the Rockies for the slightly warmer temperatures of Navarre.
Scherler is a member of the International Flying Farmers, and more than 80 members from around the United States and Canada met for the group’s annual workshop which took place Jan. 12 through 14 at the Best Western Navarre.
“We’re a group of families that fly and farm and travel and visit with each other,” he said, adding that he’s been a member since 1972.
