The State Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that Pensacola Police Officer Chad Willhite has been cleared for the fatal Christmas Eve shooting of William “Cody” Goodman of Gulf Breeze.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation determined that the shooting of the 17-year-old was justified. Goodman was shot by Willhite after he led officers on a high-speed chase Dec. 24, 2013 in his mother’s Corvette that he was driving at speeds nearing 90 mph in Pensacola.
The report said that Goodman had ran over PPD Sgt. Steve Bauer’s right leg before Willhite fired into the vehicle, striking Goodman. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and died a short time later.
Goodman was scheduled for a court appearance in January and was facing criminal prosecution for a March 2013 incident in which he was accused of killing a pedestrian on Oriole Beach Road.
