Construction of the planned new Publix-anchored Tiger Point Shopping Center may result in about 8 acres of green space in Holley by the Sea being preserved in its natural state.
The seemingly unrelated development and the 400-acre green belt a few miles away in the nearby residential community are linked by state statutes that require developers to mitigate wetlands lost to construction by purchasing and setting aside a similar amount of property elsewhere.
“Before you develop you have to perform mitigation at another site,” said John Bordelon, an attorney who specializes in real estate issues and represents the Holley by the Sea Homeowners Association.
