A strain of low-THC marijuana known as Charlotte’s Web would be legal for medical use to treat epileptic children under a bill overwhelmingly passed by the Senate Monday.
“Currently, families are being forced to move to other states or face legal jeopardy in order to get treatment for their children,” said Senate President Don Gaetz. “Senate Bill 1030 removes the legal jeopardy associated with the use of this non-euphoric strain of cannabis, so those individuals who face daily seizures can find relief within our state.”
The Senate voted 36-3 to pass the legislation that supporters said could help sick children. It now goes to the House for consideration.
State Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced the House version of the bill.
