First responders pay their respects to Gajewski

First responders, family and friends paid their respects Monday afternoon to Rodney “Big Daddy” Gajewski, a Gulf Breeze Lifeguard paramedic who died because of complications from the H1N1 virus.

A memorial service was held at Coastline Calvary Church in Gulf Breeze to remember Gajewski, 47, who passed away Jan. 5 after battling the flu virus for about two weeks. Despite the rain, hundreds attended to remember the paramedic, known to many as Big Daddy.

“I know it’s unorthodox, but I want a standing ovation for Rodney,” said Midway Fire Chief Jonathan Kanzigg as he addressed the audience. “It’s hard to understand how someone that strong can be lost so quick.” Read more in the January 16 issue of Navarre Press or subscribe online at www.navarrepress.com/subscribe.
