Local organization Caring and Sharing is leading the way this holiday season to collect food and toys for those in need in our community.
“Christmas joy is our goal for our clients,” Ann Thompson, president of Caring and Sharing said. “This year we have 183 families, totaling 710 persons, (317 adults, 119 teens, 234 children and 40 infants) who qualified for assistance.”
In October, families apply for assistance for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas distributions. They go through an interview process and the approval is made according to the family income. Once approved, they qualify for both distributions. The recipients will receive not only enough food for the holiday meal, but also for at least a week beyond that. The distribution is a three day process. The food will be collected on a Friday, sorted on Saturday and distributed on Sunday.
