Organizers had hoped for better weather this year in Navarre than what Relay for Life participants and volunteers had to contend with last year. The 2013 event saw rain, wind and chilly conditions.
The 2014 closing ceremony at Navarre High School was held under bright sunshine. “It’s not fair, I can’t look at you,” 2014 Relay for Life Chairperson Brenda Whidden told participants as she looked almost directly into the sun during the closing ceremony.
During the closing ceremony, awards were presented for most laps completed by individuals and teams, best decorated campsite, best food and survivors’ choice awards. The amount of money raised for the 2014 event will be announced May 15 at the Relay for Life wrap-up meeting.
