Attorney General Pam Bondi urges Home Depot customers to closely monitor financial activity

Tallahassee, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi urges Home Depot customers to closely monitor their financial activity following an investigation by Home Depot into a possible data breach. “I encourage all consumers to closely monitor their credit and debit card accounts to ensure that there are no unauthorized charges,” stated Attorney General Bondi. “If anyone suspects that their personal information has been compromised, they should contact their financial institution immediately and report the possible identity theft to local law enforcement.” In order to better protect consumers from data breaches, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi worked with the Legislature on the Florida Information Protection Act. Identity theft wreaks havoc on individuals’ lives and can have long-lasting effects. This legislation better protects Floridians’ personal information by ensuring that businesses and governmental entities take certain measures to protect personal information and report data breaches to consumers.
