Cold weather shelter needs volunteers

It’s not necessarily the warm food or sheltered place to sleep – for those who use one of two cold weather shelters in Santa Rosa County, it’s often the words of encouragement and outpouring of care that makes a difference.

Diane Revere, volunteer coordinator for the south Santa Rosa County shelter at Navarre Community of Christ Church, stressed that the greatest need is for volunteers willing to stay overnight at the church.

Revere said the south end shelter has about 10 current and prospective volunteers but needs at least 14 so that it’s not too burdensome. She said on average five to seven people use the shelter when activated.
