City of Gulf Breeze honors man for fire rescue

Stephanie Wright, mother of a teenage son, would not be here today if not for her landlord David Hammond.

Wright has multiple sclerosis and cannot walk. When her house caught fire late one July night Hammond was the one who rushed into the burning house to pull her out safely.

The city of Gulf Breeze honored Hammond for his bravery Wednesday, Nov. 2, by presenting him with the city’s Medal of Valor.

But Hammond says he’s no hero.
