In early October, the seat 4 fire commissioner position vacated leaving an empty seat at the board’s table. “If you live in Navarre or Holley and are qualified to vote in an election, you are qualified to serve as a commissioner for the fire district,” Fire Chief Ron Norton said. “While you don’t have to have fire service experience, this position is best served by someone with good business experience and a true desire to serve the community.”
The district will be receiving applications for the empty seat through Nov. – and the board hopes to fill the seat at the Nov. 23 meeting. To apply, interested persons can send a summary of qualifications to the district via email at email@example.com or by fax to 939-0755.
Collectively, the board of fire commissioners ensures that the district is operating according to its own policies and state statutes, and it oversees the position of Fire Chief. In addition, the board has budgetary oversight and it provides oversight for planning, future growth and the changing needs of the district.
The open seat will be filled by the board of commissioners and is an interim position until the general election is held in November 2016. At that time, the seat would be added to the ballot in the general election.
