Byrom looks back on a life of public service

Many people hope to live a long, healthy life, have a loving family and build a successful career. William Henry “Cotton” Byrom has done that and more in his 87 years.

The former longtime mayor of Milton, who also served two years in the state legislature and a dozen years as chairman of the Santa Rosa County Beach Administration, is spending his final days recounting life’s experiences with close friends with his four daughters and devoted wife, Geri, by his side.

Even elected officials have taken time out of their busy schedules to visit the larger-than-life pillar of the community as he recalls stories about landmark societal changes he not only witnessed but in which he at times played a pivotal role.
