Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown likes to tell people he joined the National Park Service when he was 6 years old.
He was with his family on a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and as they traveled by car up a road in the mountains, his mother noticed beautiful rocks along the road. Being a fan of rock gardens, she hopped out of the car and began putting many of the rocks in her trunk.
