Blackhawk Memorial falling short of fundraising goals

Navarre was the scene of the catastrophic foggy night training crash of a UH-60 Blackhawk off Navarre Beach in which 11 servicemen perished March 11, 2015. The Navarre community wasted no time expeditiously melding together to assist emergency personnel and search crews both civilian and military, hoping against hope, even as the search transitioned into a recovery operation.

The Leadership Santa Rosa Class 29 embarked on a memorial project to ensure these soldiers and Marines’ lives are not forgotten and to reach out to the victims’ families. Toward that end, the class selected four artists and solicited bids from them to erect a memorial. S.S. Dixon Intermediate School’s art teacher Randy New was selected for the project.
