Lizzie Trickey and Haley Winkelman are making their away around the country, but their mode of transportation isn’t a plane train or automobile.
They are on their bikes, touring the lower 48 states in an effort to raise awareness for a nonprofit organization called Watsi that helps fund medical treatment for people in need worldwide.
Their journey, which began back in May in their hometown of McMinnville, Ore., is only half-way over and part of it included a stop in Navarre on a hot Wednesday afternoon.
“(Florida) is the 33rd state we’ve been to and we’re planning to see the beach for the first time when we get to Pensacola,” Trickey said while taking a break in the shade of the Wal-Mart shopping cart area. “We teamed up with Watsi because they are upfront and transparent about how they use donations. It’s a great cause and we’re doing what we can to help raise awareness about it.”
