Holley by the Sea has put out a warning that there have been two reported sightings of a bear visiting the pool deck of the HBTS Recreation Center within the last week.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has been called and an FWC officer visited the recreation center. The bear had moved on by the time the officer arrived.
A meeting was scheduled for Tuesday with an FWC Bear Biologist to determine the next course of action. FWC will be making all decisions on how to handle the situation in the interest of the safety of the members of HBTS.
HBTS management and its board of directors do not have the authority to regulate the process.
HBTS management asks that anyone visiting the recreation center be aware that a bear has been on the property. The bear has been spotted near the jogging path and on the pool deck. All members are asked to throw out trash inside the recreation center.
If anyone encounters the bear, immediately go inside the recreation center and report it to the front desk. Someone at the front desk will call the FWC.
For anyone who spots a bear in the neighborhood, contact FWC at 1-888-404-3922 or send a text to Tip@MyFWC.com.
