William Brandon Aydelott, 17, of Gulf Breeze confessed to the gruesome Christmas Eve murder of his mom, a beloved Holley-Navarre Middle School teacher and Gulf Breeze High School Cross Country Coach, Sharon Lynn Aydelott. Brandon Aydelott is accused of stabbing and beating his mom to death following an argument.
He was arrested roughly three hours after her body was discovered in her residence, located on Crane Cove Boulevard in Gulf Breeze. The victim had multiple stab wounds and had been struck with a baseball bat and was pronounced dead on scene.
The 6-foot 3-inch, 189 pound defendant was not residing with his mother at the time of the incident. He fled the scene but was apprehended upon returning to his current residence, where he was observed to have clean clothes but dried blood on his wrist or hand area. Aydelott was described as emotionless, other than flashing a small smile, during a subsequent interview with deputies in which he confessed to the crime.
At a Dec. 27 hearing before Circuit Judge John Simon, Aydelott was notified his case would be transferred to Judge Marci Goodman and a follow-up hearing would be held Saturday, Dec. 28. If a grand jury indicts him, Aydelott could face first-degree murder charges. Currently Aydelott is charged as an adult with second-degree murder.
Aydelott remains in jail without bond.
