Williams Creek area effluent disposal approved

Over the voiced objections of a half-dozen residents, county commissioners approved a request Thursday night by Holley-Navarre Water System to build a wastewater disposal site in the Williams Creek neighborhood.
In a 2-1 vote, with Commissioners Jayer Williamson and Bob Cole not in attendance, the board approval came without verifying HNWS’s contention that it risks a regulatory moratorium on new sewer hookups if the disposal system—essentially a pond with gravel underneath—isn’t approved.
As reported in the Navarre Press, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection said last week that her agency is willing to work with Holley-Navarre Water toward a long-term solution to its wastewater disposal needs. The company currently exceeds its permitted capacity on some days, but not others, she said.
District 4 Commissioner Rob Williamson urged HNWS “to work as if this request was denied” to complete a proposed deal with South Santa Rosa Utility to use property it’s offering for wastewater disposal.

District 5 Commissioner and Board Chairman,Lane Lynchard, was the only dissenting vote.

The full story will be included in the June 2 issue of Navarre Press.
