Kevin Lacz, a former Navy SEAL who played himself in the 2014 hit movie “American Sniper,” now lives in Navarre and, with his wife Lindsey, is the heart and soul of a new veterans outreach effort.
A real-life friend and colleague of the film’s subject, the late Chris Kyle, Kevin didn’t leave rifles behind when he and Lindsey started “Hunting for Healing” last fall. It’s a nonprofit with an attitude evocative of a decal at the couple’s house: “God bless our troops, especially the snipers.”
That sentiment is echoed by Chris Cochrane, a former Air Force flight instructor who is partially paralyzed from a stroke. Cochrane, 34, and his wife, Ashley, recently accompanied the Laczes to hunt ducks in Louisiana. “When we heard about the Hunting for Healing excursion, it really wasn’t much of a decision for us. We were all in,” said Chris, who has been through nearly three years of physical therapy to regain his ability to walk and speak.
