Local teen struggles with brain injury

A young Navarre man is fighting to recover from a medical emergency that left his brain without oxygen long enough to cause serious damage.

Jayce Firestone, who lives with his mom and siblings in Holley by the Sea, had been having unexplained seizures for a year before the Sept. 23 incident. COVID-19 interrupted the diagnostic tests, said his mom, Kandi Schaible.

On that night, his mom was cooking dinner when he told her he was going out on the porch. About 10 minutes later, he called his sister, who was in the house, and his voice was slurred.
