Children visiting the Gulf Breeze Zoo fed treats to the zoo’s three giraffes in honor of World Giraffe Day, June 21. Zoo curator Katy Rich gave a special giraffe talk describing facts about the animals and raising awareness about dropping reticulated giraffe populations.
“We call them quiet giants,” Rich said. “When people can see them up close they can really appreciate the animals. We do this because there is no better way for someone to connect and care about something than to get face-to-face and interact with them.”
